You can use other berries for this recipe if you prefer, for example strawberries, blackberries or even cherries.

 

I prefer to use compote over jams as they have more of a powerful taste and aren't overly sweet. When you combine a sweet cake with sweet buttercream and a filling, it’s nice to balance the sweetness with a tart filling.
